Worldviews shape the way in which we interact with the world around us. It is how we see and interpret meaning from interaction. The way we see the world provides a set of presuppositions that carry significant weight in how we ought to go about living. There are a number of different worldviews that one might adopt but each has its own guiding principles. The most significant worldview in shaping our culture in the west is most definitely the Judeo, Christian worldview.
The Judeo, Christian worldview can be further refined to talk about specifically a Christian biblical worldview that has shaped our culture. According to Rev. Graham, “An individual with a Biblical worldview looks at the world and sifts all information through the lens of God’s Word. Scripture informs his thinking and behavior, guiding his intellect and moral determinations. The Bible is the bedrock that undergirds his entire life.” The Biblical worldview says emphatically there is a God who has created all things in Heaven and earth. The Biblical worldview says there is a God—One who is personal, powerful and caring—who created the world and everything in it. The Biblical worldview also asserts the existence and reality of sin and evil. The Biblical worldview triumphantly proclaims, the Lord Jesus Christ will return to earth.
Some of the prevalent competing worldviews to a biblical worldview are secularism, evolutionist, atheist communist state, and fundamentalist Islam. In our culture, secularism is on the rise and evolutionism has been generally accepted by a lot of those secularists. One of things most people don’t realize is that everyone has a worldview and that there is no way to have a blank slate and view the world objectively. That is why a theologically devoid Europe is being overtaken by fundamentalist Islam.
I have adopted a biblical worldview to direct my personal life. At times, as a fallen human begin, I tend to forget or question certain aspects of the biblical / Christian worldview, but I always try from return to that frame of mind. My personal values align very closely to the description of a biblical worldview that Rev. Graham presented.
